The Sumatran Tiger identified by their bright orange colour and thick black lines, weighing between 165-308 pounds or 75-140 kgs, and measuring an average of 7.8 feet from its nose to the tip of its tail, make this tiger the smallest living species of tiger. Habitat The Sumatran Tiger while inhabiting island of Sumatra like its name lives typically inhabits land which consists of Tropical Broadleaf Evergreen, Peat Swamps, and Freshwater Swamp Forests while can also occasionally travel up mountains. However though the this tiger can travel across mountains more than often the Sumatran can be located in spots of ample dense bush especially near water. |
Population
Panthera Tigris Sumatrae or commonly known as the Sumatran Tiger are currently living in the remaining patches of forests on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. With less than 400 living in the wild because of poaching and accelerating deforestation of the area the Sumatran Tiger has now been placed on the Critically Endangered list. Diet and Lifestyle
The Sumatran tiger's diet reflects their lifestyle In many ways. This sub species of tiger like many other sub species generally lives and prowls alone other than the mating rituals of a tiger and the 'mother-offspring care'. The territorial aspects of such an animal reflect anything of a carnivore and thus this sub species eats anything it may come across in the forest. Such as fish, birds, small mammals, pig and deer. |
